Als militärische Variante der Douglas DC-3 ist allgemein die C-47 Skytrain bekannt. Die C-47 hat jedoch ein Frachttor. Die militärische Variante ohne Frachttor als direkte Ableitung der zivilen DC-3 ist dagegen weniger bekannt und nennt sich C-53 Skytrooper. Der Film zeigt einen Flug in der C-53D „D-Day Doll“, N45366.
